Larry Dale Whitesides

Larry Dale Whitesides, 87, of Columbia, MO, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026. Born on July 10, 1938, Larry lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, work, and passions.

 

Larry attended Hickman High School before serving his country honorably in the Navy. Following his military service, he pursued a career in construction. Later he went on to hold a variety of service-oriented jobs, with his most recent role as a driver for Rusty Drewing Automotive. This position allowed him to enjoy many road trips, which he cherished.

 

Larry was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Missouri Tigers. He loved fishing, Bingo, and working on puzzles, but more than anything he loved meeting new people because he knew no strangers.

 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie Whitesides; his parents, Glen and Lena Whitesides; two brothers, Donald Whitesides and Bobby Glen Whitesides; and two sisters, Dorothy Sorrels and Jacqueline Pierce.

 

Larry is survived by his son, Gary Whitesides (Kim) of Virginia; his daughter, Sabra Proctor of South Dakota; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Brenda Kay Matney of Columbia and Gwendolyn Turner of Wentzville; one brother, Kenneth Whitesides of Columbia and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held on April 12, 2026, at 3:00pm at First Church of Nazarene located at 2601 Blue Ridge Rd, Columbia, MO 65202. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family to assist with final expenses is appreciated.

 

Larry's memory will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew him.
